Wedding planning brings many decisions to be made and deadlines to be met! Let me take the stress out of the wedding stationery stage at least! With many years as a wedding stationer, I’ve got lots of advice on the ideal times to send out your stationery items from working with many lovely couples of the years…
Save The Dates
I recommend sending save the dates out around 12-18 months before your wedding date and if you’re having a destination wedding then send them sooner if possible.
A save the date can be really straightforward, it doesn’t need much detail because at this point you want to secure the date into your guest’s diaries. It’s a lovely opportunity to give your guests a glimpse of what to expect from your wedding day and who wouldn’t want to receive a stylish save the date on display at home!

Wedding Invitation
The wedding invitation would ideally be sent 6-9 months ahead of the big day. One thing to consider is if you are not sending a save the date out, then you may want to send your wedding invitation out sooner. This timeframe allows you time to chase any guests who haven’t responded or if people can’t make it, to consider who else you might like to upgrade to an invite! There’s more on RSVP timings later.
I design my wedding stationery designs as collections so from the save the date and invitation through to the on the day stationery, there’s a cohesive and stylish design. The curated collection of LouPaper wedding stationery designs are on my website and each one can be customised to mix and match the designs, to add finishing touches, change colour or fonts.
If there’s not a design you like, I can create something truly bespoke to you. Have a look at some previous examples here.

The wedding invitation is an essential part of wedding stationery because it gives your guests all the information they need for your wedding day, such as the wedding venue address, timings, taxi numbers and accommodation options. When we come to work on yours, I can help advise on the wording so don’t worry!

On the Day Stationery
For the on the day stationery, I would typically start working on this around 8 weeks before your wedding day. On the day stationery includes larger signage items such as a wedding welcome sign, order of the day sign and table plan. As well as smaller stationery items such as table names or numbers, guest place names and wedding menus. I often create order of service booklets for the wedding ceremony itself, whether that’s civil or a church ceremony.
There’s lots of benefits to having on the day stationery because it gives guests information, makes the day flow easier because everyone is informed and of course is a gorgeous part of the wedding styling.

Smaller signage items are always popular with my wedding couples. I can create anything to fit within your stationery look and feel, to advise guests on any details you would like to draw attention to. Popular small signs are cake flavours, bar menus, bespoke cocktails, a cards and gifts sign, a guestbook sign. You can choose to have lyrics, poems or quotes printed too.

RSVP’s
An RSVP card is sent out as part of the wedding invitation suite. I advise couples to give guests a deadline of 12 weeks before the wedding. This will help your venue with numbers for catering and any dietary requirements. I’ll also need to know for your table plan signage if you choose to have one. You do not want any last minute stress of not having numbers finalised in the lead up to your big day! If you’re looking for more RSVP tips, I’ve got a blog post specifically on them here

I hope this blog post gives you a timeline to help guide your wedding planning for the stationery items. Once you get in touch I can advise on how long I’ll need to work on your design, as that time will need to be factored in too and of course will be longer if you choose a bespoke design.
