THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SAVE THE DATE AND A WEDDING INVITATION?

A common question I am asked from my wedding couples is what is the difference between a save the date and a wedding invitation.

The purpose of the save the date is to let your wedding guests know the date and location of your big day in advance so they can add to their diaries. Save the dates are typically sent 12-18 months in advance, however I advise even longer if you’re opting for a destination wedding. Sending a save the date also provides an opportunity to give guests a first impression of your wedding style as well as letting guests start planning travel and childcare arrangements!

The wedding invitation is the official request for guests to join you for your wedding celebration. The wedding invitation gives your guests all the information they need for your big day including the location, timings, accommodation recommendations and an RSVP card for guests to respond. I advise wedding invitations are sent out 6-9 months in advance, to ensure there’s enough time for guests to RSVP and time for you to chase any who are outstanding.

At LouPaper, I have a curated collection of wedding stationery which is a great starting point for wedding planning couples to decide on a colour palette or a design for their save the dates and wedding invitations. My designs use hand lettered calligraphy for a stylish and contemporary look. All of the designs in the collection can be customised to suit the colours and style of your wedding day.

There’s a range of different finishing touches you can add to personalise your stationery too, such as a wedding venue illustration together with grey calligraphy touches and a watercolour green eucalyptus design as shown on the Jenni wedding invitation.

The stationery collections include a save the date, wedding invitations and on the day stationery such as the wedding menu so all of the wedding stationery has a cohesive feel to suit the style of the wedding.
