Are you planning your wedding but concerned about the impact of their wedding day on the environment? There are ways to make your wedding more sustainable, without having to sacrifice on style. It just means making more considered and meaningful choices throughout the wedding planning process. So, here’s some tips on how you can make your wedding day kinder to the planet!
Sustainable Wedding Stationery
At LouPaper, I work with print suppliers who offer responsibly sourced and 100% recycled paper. One supplier has paper made of by- products from citrus fruits and other raw materials saved from landfill. This one is becoming a more popular choice with couples! Handmade paper gives a gorgeous rustic finish to each invitation because every sheet of paper is truly unique.
If you’d prefer to avoid printing altogether, you can opt for a digital wedding save the date and/or invitation. I’ve got a whole blog post dedicated to digital wedding invitations which you can read here.

With a digital invitation you can still choose one of my wedding stationery collection designs. I personalise the design with the details of your wedding day and your colours. I then send the design as a PDF or a jpeg file so you can send out to your guests by email or text. Read more tips on adding a QR code to wedding stationery on this blog post.

On The Day Stationery
There are options to reduce the amount of printed paper for the wedding day. Such as choosing to have a menu printed for each table, rather than an individual menu per guest.
For the larger signage items there’s an eco- friendlier option with Greencast Perspex which is produced using recycled acrylic. Having my hand drawn calligraphy added on to Perspex gives a stylish look to your big day too.

Keep it Local and Sustainable Wedding Ideas
If keeping your wedding day as sustainable as possible is important to you as a couple, then consider these tips….
Source as local as possible for everything on the wedding day, such as a local food and drink supplier who can help with local and seasonal food and wine.
Source a local florist who grows their own flowers.
For wedding favours, consider donating to a charity on behalf of your guests, or have an edible or drinkable favour, rather than a one-off decoration which can be wasteful.

For the classic confetti picture, use biodegradable flower petals instead of traditional plastic confetti
For the wedding décor, consider hiring from your venue, borrowing from suppliers or friends who have got married. You can have a go at creating things yourself, instead of buying one off items that won’t be re-used.
Finally for the bridal outfit… many bridal boutiques now have a sustainable line with designers using more eco-friendly materials such as organic cotton or recycled cotton.
