SHOULD WE SEND SAVE THE DATES?

Save the dates are the first piece of stationery you could send to wedding guests. So, let’s get into why it’s a good idea to send them out! The purpose of the save the date is to get your wedding date into the diary of all the guests who you would love to share your wedding day with. Timing wise, I recommend sending save the dates out around 12-18 months in advance to give as much notice as possible! For destination weddings it’s a good idea to give your guests some extra time to plan their travel arrangements and avoid any diary clashes!

There are lots of other reasons why it’s a good idea to send a save the date card out in advance. If your wedding date is close to Christmas or a bank holiday it’s a good idea to get your date out because your guests are likely to make plans early. Or, perhaps your wedding day involves travelling some distance to get to the venue. If you have lots of guests who will need to book accommodation then the more time they know in advance, the better!

A save the date is a lovely way to start setting the tone and colour palette for guests for what to expect from your wedding day. If you don’t have the budget to send save the dates then don’t worry, save it for your wedding invitations, which will contain all your wedding day details.

As an alternative to printed save the date cards, you could consider sending a digital save the date out. Once you’ve decided on your favourite design, I can personalise for you and provide a PDF or jpeg file, ready for you to send out to your guests by email or by text. Although there’s nothing quite like receiving printed stationery through the post!

I design wedding stationery as collections which include everything from the save the date card, wedding invitation all the way through to everything you need on the wedding day such as signage, table names/numbers, menus and guest place names. Many of my designs use hand lettered modern calligraphy for a stylish and contemporary look. All the designs in the collection can be customised to suit the colours and style of your wedding day.
